  Overview
The SDY is a versatile, 2-wire (loop-powered),
PC-Programmable Signal Isolator/Converter that
accepts current or voltage input and provides an
isolated, proportional 4-20mA output. See Figure 1
for a list of accommodated input types.
Typical uses for the SDY include:
• Isolating Signals to stop erratic process
measurements caused by ground loops
• Converting Signals so field instruments can
interface directly with indicators, recorders,
DCS’s, PLC’s, and PC-based SCADA systems
• Diverting Signals so the output from one
transmitter can be sent to two separate
locations
• Protecting Equipment and Signals by
eliminating common electrical paths
• Boosting Signals to enable more instruments
to be added to an overburdened loop
• Solving the “Bucking Power Supplies”
problem that occurs when a 4-wire transmitter
and a DCS both try to power the same process
loop
